silent night, holy night

273

sitting all night in the sanctity of silence,
watching small wondrous points of light
– luminous openings in the black blanket of night –
move from there-to-there,
sailing over their reflections on the vast wetness
that is another life-teeming universe

 stars – planets – sky – east – west – ocean

have you noticed
how miracles
once safely labeled,
lose their sense of wonder
and sanctity?

grace supports sunyata-addicts

270

Moving-out day today.  With the carrier coming at 8am and the body exhausted, it hardly seemed possible that I’d wake early enough to sit.  (No, I don’t use techno-aids to awaken.)

How interesting then, to be woken up on the dot of 5am by the merry tinsel-town tune of the door-chimes!

Particularly interesting, since they are still disconnected and this time there are no electrical storms around.

That ‘fickle finger of fate’, a-k-a Grace, has been over-riding mere physicality again.  It seems to support sunyata-addicts.  It’ll do anything, anything, to wake one up from the big dream.  Hmmm, that feels pretty nice, if a touch scary.

changeless presence : I

269

the little sanctuary is full of packing boxes

I sit instead, in the bedroom
same cushion
same I

body-mind is stiff and weary from lift and shift
same cushion
same I

the impulse, Life-driven, is towards a new abode, cool and quiet
same cushion
same I

same
changeless
presence
:
I

there is nothing but grace

73

what is Grace?

there is nothing but Grace:

if sitting happens Grace puts butt on the cushion

if writing happens Grace pushes the pen

if anything is apperceived Grace is the giver of the gift

if anyone awakens Grace is the alarm clock

if all this is seen to be true, Grace is the seer

eyeless
bodiless
illiterate
unconditioned

Grace

one day the ‘with’ disappeared

30

well
it was rather auspicious:

on the eve of a new year, while holed-up
at a Tibetan Buddhist Monastery
Life
knee-capped
Itself

she-who-scribbles
was brought to her knees
crippled, dis-abled, humbled

the scene was set:

she could only sit
and sit, and sit and sit

with now, with this, with here

and one day the ‘with’ disappeared
