an ecstasy of ease

186

Awake on the dot of midnight with a wideawakeness in the brain that defies description.  The brain was empty of thought yet singing with energy.  Then I noticed the whole body was alive and singing with this energy and was completely at ease, although the night was hot, humid and airless.

Sitting through the night hours was an ecstasy of ease; I remember thinking at one point “I could do this forever, forever.”

Hours later, when the morning star was soaring in the eastern sky there was a perception of the world that was shocking in its luminosity and freshness and clarity.  “Oh my God!” I cried out loud, and that shocked me too somehow – the sharp clarity of my own voice.  I felt as though my hair was standing on end.

And then I noticed that for the first time in months the old aching exhaustion had left my body.

tripping in the cerebral spaceship

64

giggles this morning

the entertainment?
a dear wee ‘me’ cut-out
sitting in the little lifeboat
christened ‘miriam’
each stroke of the oars a
thought-splash:

pouring green tea into a cup (Kyoto and Edinburgh) scratching left armpit midges and mites and mozzies (The English Lakes and tropical Queensland) melting into coral-washed clouds (India, Kenya, France, Italy…)

around the world, faster than light
in the shimmering luminosity
of a cerebral spaceship

yet no muscle moves
and nothing affects
this oceanic stillness

a hole in the fabric of the world

50

a hole opens in the fabric of the familiar world
it’s the size of a soccer ball
within it swirl snakes of pure colour and energy – no
not snakes – snaking swirlings

it is luminous
it has immense depth
it allows itself to be perceived –
somehow, by it-self
for a perceiver isn’t present

weird

first in Winchester, then in Thalheim, then in Hiesville,
then in Wellington, now in Urangan

and ever and only right here, now
in this timeless Presence
