Echoes from Emptiness: this is it

O is for

Opening
to the possibility that nothing
is the way it appears to be

Observing
thought’s dynamics, especially
the compilation of dear wee-me

Obsolescence
identification with anything nameable
is suddenly … laughable

Ordinariness
is the order of the day
nothing is special, only everything

Okeydokey
no more arguments with whatever-ness
(my battle-bruises get a rest)

Others
virtual or ‘real’ turn out to be
a mirror-image of ‘me’

O M G
this … this … this
is always IT

witness? watcher? who? where?

329

Several highly respected books on ‘awakening’ advise that once the impossibility of a separate self-entity has been irrefutably seen, ‘identification’ needs to shift from that illusory person to the ‘watcher’ or ‘witness’, and that further along the path, this witness will dissolve into pure primordial Awareness – which is what One truly is.

I find this quite illogical. I just don’t get it, never did; I missed this step, totally.

Having met the impossibility of ‘my’ separate existence, the impossibility of an independent object called by my name here, there or anywhere, past present or future, just who would this person with ability to identify with anything BE?

Who could become the ‘watcher’ or ‘witness’ – or for that matter, emptiness?

Identification was suddenly as obsolete as the old ‘me’ and it took off – taking self and no-self with it – when it was clearly seen that wild wideawakeness is the only player in this game, and that that wideawakeness – aka natural, naked aware-ing – is none other than ‘I’.

The ‘I’ casts off the illusion of ‘I’
and yet remains as ‘I’,
such is the paradox of Self-realization.

sucking at the wrong source

134

Some speak of ‘my’ energy, of ‘their’ energy, of ‘others’ draining one’s energy – as in bad and good vibes…  But where is this self that owns its ‘own’ energy?  Exactly where are these other selves who can steal ‘my’ energy?  Can life’s energy exist as an object to be manipulated or to be stolen?  Scientists can measure energy in different forms, but can they hold it in their hands and view it with the naked eye?

What I’ve discovered these past months, in the company of a dear someone who constantly monitors ‘his’ energy and also informs me of the state of my own, is that the sensation of energy loss – or gain – in my body is caused by identification with said body, coupled with the belief that energy is finite and fixed. I question this popular paradigm that posits human beings as a collective of hungry vampire energy-suckers. As far as I’m concerned they’re sucking at the wrong source.

What if all those beliefs were untrue?
What if our ‘real’ energy was something utterly
unknowable
immeasurable
changeless
limitless
non-local
and so unavoidable that you’d have to conclude
IT was your
own dear Self?

what’s the big deal about bad habits?

122

habit = conditioned, repeated, mechanical action

who has them?
no entity here to own anything

how can they be changed then, or controlled?
can’t

what to do?
enjoy

heresy!
hairy who?

The addictive notion of ‘me’ and ‘mine’ is the only habit that’s really interesting – and then only until it hits home that habits are nothing to do with what we actually are which is:

IT-expressing-IT-ness-in-whatever-is
(which includes the whole kit and caboodle, even those pesky ‘bad’ habits!)

Look very closely and you’ll find
that the Knowingness of every experience, addictive or not
is never affected for an instant.

And astonishingly, a side-effect of that in-sight
is that  the “conditioned, repeated, mechanical action”
one was identified with
ceases to be an issue.

So what’s the big deal about habits?

For new visitors to this blog, IT refers to that which cannot be named, but which we never tire of labeling:  life, aliveness, god, spirit, awareness, beloved, divinity, noumenon and on and on . . .

what is ‘right action’?

33

all the body-brain conditioning
acquired over a lifetime remains

it’s a myth that it’s somehow all
wiped away with a whiff of awakening

what does go, is the reflexive ‘me’ mirage
that habitually identified with that conditioning

when conditioned responses to Life
(re-actions) manifest,
Awareness lays them bare

some serve the survival needs of the organism;
these I associate with an intelligence
beyond comprehension

some serve the survival of the old illusory ‘self;’
these I associate with intellect
in its dualistic operation

so, what can be said about ‘right action?’

no action stands alone –
any action is an inevitable action
dependent upon and
interdependent with
the ceaseless activity
of non-personal, agenda-free
Life

‘right action’ is just another concept
