God came to visit

I’m utterly emptied out

the God game

How to play.

[Since participation isn’t optional, and there’s no Players’ Manual provided, what can one do but invent a good story?]

1

Go hide yourSelf [aka Primordial Awareness, Divine Light, Truth, Reality, Original Self, Godhead…] from view – somewhere so obvious and so simple, it’s guaranteed to be overlooked.

2

Call the shadow cast by your hidden self-shining Light “world”: an infinite array of mirrors reflecting every imaginable experience; a mind-field so intricate it can entertain for lifetimes…

Mirror Room (after Da Vinci)

3

Forget you had any part in this arrangement [crucial, repeat, crucial] and set out into the “world”, wearing an infinity of cunning disguises, to find yourSelf again.

4

Spend as much time as needed [i.e. aeons of now-ness] entertaining and satiating your seeker-self and eventually

5

stop.
shut up.
surrender and fall

back

down

in

and there,
which is now-here,
beyond time and space
behind the mirrors
out of your mind

meet yourSelf as your every perception
thought
and
feeling

love yourSelf as the font and the fabric
of this seething, sensuous
and wholly divine
dance

know yourSelf
– your own dear flawed and fantastic self –
as the Light
you hid so darned effectively
it took a lifetime of forgetting

before you could remember

again

Image: Mirror room built for the Da Vinci, the Genius traveling museum exhibition, based on one of his sketches. The mirror room was just an idea for Da Vinci, a way to see all around an object (or one’s self); the technology of his day couldn’t come close to creating mirrors of this size. I wonder if he fully realised what the experience of being in such a room would be like, the dizzying way reflections of your reflection would stretch off to infinity… did he perhaps reflect upon the all-inclusive Awareness in which this immense view appeared?

nothin’ left to lose …

I’ve had an encounter with an ear worm. You know, those catchy tunes that keep playing in your mind ad nauseam.

It’s amazing the lengths tic-toc thinking will go to, to ensure some activity is going on. I’ve found the only effective antidote to be a kind of meditation where you just plonk yourself down (or not) and cast attention in the worm’s direction without any intention to “stop” it. Brain worms loathe the light of attention.

This worm was fun (for a while), as my mind played with the lyrics. I jotted a couple down before returning the wriggler to sender, from whence it has failed to return. Maybe it’s back in Janis’s pocket…

Janis Joplin, 1970

“Freedom’s just another word
for nothin’ left to lose.”*

Love is just another word
for when you disappear.

Peace is just another word
for right and wrong conjoined.

Heaven‘s just another word
for no one left to choose.

More stanzas on the nondual theme, anyone?

[Later – they just keep coming… ]

Me is just another word
for God knowing Itself.

Joy is just another word
for thankfulness enthused.

Praise is just another word
for wonderment expressed.

God is just another word
for What’s beyond all words.

. . .

* Lyrics from Me and Bobby McGee, by Kris Kristofferson

is black the new holy?

Echoes from Emptiness: Black Hole

I’ve been watching pop-science docos on telly and learning about

black holes
black matter
black energy
black flow

I’ve gathered that ‘black’ is the word used to denote

the invisible
the unknowable
the immeasurable
the ubiquitous

and I ask myself
is black the new God-word?
is black the new holy?

it’s windy today

235

it’s windy today

.

– dancing bougainvillea blossoms caressing brick wall
– sweeping rainbows from spinning crystal
– shifting shadows through lattice trellis
– flapping bamboo blind air-sailing
– frangipani fragrance kissing face

– tossing eucalypt branches against pearl
one loosed leaf spirals to the earth

does it intuit that letting-go is love?
that love is grace
and grace is
God?

I pick up the loosed leaf, knowing that
in my palm rests the only teaching
I will ever need

.

it’s windy today

life lives its vast vitality

189

Natural, deep, dreamless sleep is a miraculous healer.  Any approximation of that ‘state’ during waking hours is a crucial activity of the body-mind.  This is where meditation is such a vital (non)activity.

Life  –  Knowingness, Awareness, Primordial Essence, God, Tao; as you wish  –  is unhampered by the web of confused and conflicting concepts called thought and experienced as self.

IT simply lives ITs vast vitality; runs repairs on the body-mind as necessary, blessedly unimpeded by a ‘doer’ doing anything.

God . . . Life . . . I

142

Try as I might I can no longer separate these three little words:  God and Life and I. Which is not to make the claim that “I am god” or “I am life”; but rather to point out that the fundamental sense of ‘I’ is what I used to conceive God to be – namely Life ITself.  There’s no person involved in this equation.

Taken separately, the ‘God’-notion is a mine-field (pun intended).  God is too burdened with beliefs to be a useful concept when it comes to self-inquiry.  It’s a blunt and contaminated instrument; delusional infection is likely.

The ‘Life’ concept is less of a problem, and hard to argue about.  One is, if still breathing, in full awareness of it.  The word is not the thing, but at least we are in accord about what it feels like to be alive.

‘I’ is a hot potato, for in normal parlance language dictates its usage to denote personhood: me, myself, and there are as many versions of what that means as there are beings to think them up.

Strung together, and understood from the wideawake perspective they form a concept that might be more useful.

‘God-Life-I’ has nothing to do with beliefs or persons or language or even self-inquiry, yet IT cannot know ITself without them.

IT’s the self-appointed president of the GLI (glee) club.  Chuckles.
